County Cork Vocational Education Committee

County Cork VEC, in conjunction with the Department of Education and Skills, administers a means-tested Student Grants Scheme that offers financial support to students undertaking further and higher education courses.

County Cork VEC administers applications from residents of County Cork (excluding Cork City area).

2011/12 Grant Applications

The application process for 2011-12 is still open. Only when your application has been completed in full and submitted to this office along with supporting documentation can your eligibility be determined.

Government Budgetary Changes to Rate of Student Grants - Schemes 2011/2012 effective from 1st January 2012:

A reduction of 3% will apply to your grant award, effective from 1st January 2012.

Students studying at Level 8 or higher who are due arrears for their 1st instalment will be paid at the original rates.  All payments from the 1st January 2012 will be paid at the revised rates.  Students studying at Level 5, Level 6 and Level 7 who are due arrears for the months of September, October, November and December 2011 will be paid at the original rates.  Payments from the 1st February 2012 (in respect of January attendance) will be paid at the revised rates.

Please note the following changes to the distance for the non-adjacent rate for 2011/2012:

The qualifying distance criterion for entitlement to the higher non-adjacent rate of grant (distance from home to the college) will be changed from 15 miles (24 kilometres) to 28 miles (45 kilometres). This measure will take effect for all students both new and renewal from the start of the 2011/2012 academic year.

The automatic eligibility of mature students to the higher non-adjacent rate of payment, will no longer apply, effective for all students both new and renewal from the commencement of the 2011/2012 acadmic year.
